At the
Meeting of Heads of States and Governments of Asian and African States held in
April 2015 in Bandung, Indonesia, to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Bandung
Conference of 1955 it was resolved to observe 24 April every year as the Bandung
Day to recall the aspirations of the people of the newly independent countries.
In this light The Council for Social Development and India International Centre
organised a symposium on "Bandung Legacy and Global Future" in
New Delhi on 23 April 2016 at Kamaladevi Auditorium, India International
Centre.
Programme
started with screening of short clippings of speeches of Jawaharlal Nehru and
Sukarno. Prof. Manoranjan Mohanty welcomed the guests and speakers and
introduced the subject. The event was chaired by Ms Kapila Vatsyayan, a
well known art critic. The speakers included Prof. Muchkund Dubey,
former Foreign Secretary and President of Council for Social Development and Prof.
Deepak Nayyar, a leading intellectual and former Vice-Chancellor of
University of Delhi. Prof. Dubey spoke on the topic of "Future of the
UN System" and Prof. Nayyar spoke on "Trends in Global
Governance." Deputy Chief of Mission of Indonesia in India Mr.
Dalton Sembiring conveyed the greetings on behalf of the Indonesian Mission
in India.
