BANDUNG OF PEOPLE 2005 STATEMENTS

2005 marked the first time that the 1955 Bandung Conference was commemorated by academics and social movements in diverse countries.
— In Brazil, two sessions of the World Social Forum 2005 in Porto Alegre, January 26-31, 2005 were dedicated to Bandung+50. These were organised by JAALA (Japan Asia Africa and Latin America Solidarity Committee) and ARENA (Asian Regional Exchange for New Alternatives).
— In Egypt, an international conference on "Vision of Bandung after 50 years in Facing New Challenges" was held by AAPSO (Afro-Asian Peoples Solidarity Organization) in Cairo, March 1-3, 2005.
— In India, a number of events related to Bandung+50 were planned to be held by AIPSO (All India Peace and Solidarity Organization) in May 2005 in the state of Kerala.
— In Sri Lanka, it was planned to organise similar events after Kerala.
— In Indonesia, in addition to the commemoration organised by the states of Asia and Africa, several events took place : April 11-15, 2005, Conference on "The Spirit of Bandung 2005 : Toward A Common Future", organised by CCA (Christian Conference in Asia), in Jakarta ; April 13-16, 2005, Conference on "Bandung in the 21st Century : Continuing the Struggle for Independence, Peace Against Imperialist War and Globalization", organised by APRN (Asia Pacific Research Network), in Bandung ; April 18-19, 2005, Conference on "Another Ways for Social Development is Possible Revitalising the 1955 Bandung Spirit", organised by several Indonesian NGOs, in Bandung ; April 18-21, 2005, Conference-book launching on “BANDUNG 2005 Rethinking Solidarity in Global Society The Challenge of Globalisation for Social and Solidarity Movements”, organised by Gadjah Mada University and Yayasan Pondok Rakyat (People’s Shelter Foundation), in Yogyakarta ; April 22, 2005, the launching of the same book was to be held in Bandung.
— In Thailand, a launch of the book published in Yogyakarta was planned for Bangkok, organised by Mahidol University, on April 25.
— In the US, a conference/workshop on “Bandung and Beyond : Rethinking Afro-Asian Connections During the Twentieth Century” was planned to be held in Stanford University, California, May 14-15, 2005.
— In Japan, JAALA planned to organise two meetings : "The Lecture Meeting of the 50th anniversary of the Bandung Conference and the 50th anniversary of Japan AALA Foundation", April 9, 2005, and “Non-Aligned International Symposium on 50th anniversary of Bandung Conference”, November 26-27, 2005.
